The Chef’s Island
Description
A working island built for real cooks, not showrooms.
The Chef’s Island is Paul Diamond’s signature worktable: thick North American hardwood, welded steel stretchers, and a footprint tuned for prep, plating, and serving in an everyday kitchen.
Materials that earn their patina
– Solid hardwood top and base (no MDF, no veneer)
– Food-safe oil and low-sheen topcoat—protects the wood without plastic shine
– Welded steel stretchers powder-coated in a soft black for strength and contrast
– Slatted lower shelf for Dutch ovens, pans, or cutting boards
Designed for daily use
– Sized to work as a true prep station beside your range or main counters
– Rounded edges and hand-sanded corners feel good to lean on while you cook
– Open base keeps the piece visually light and easy to clean around
– Shelf slats are spaced for airflow so heavy pots dry between uses
Built one at a time in Cedaredge, Colorado
Every island is milled, joined, and finished in Paul’s small studio using boards selected for grain and character. The top can be re-oiled and refinished over time so it wears in, not out.

Care & maintenance
Yes. The top is finished with food-safe oils that protect the wood without a plastic shine. It’s made to live as a cutting board, hot pans on trivets, and daily kitchen use.
Treat it like a high-quality butcher block: wipe up spills promptly, avoid standing water, use cutting boards for heavy chopping, and trivets for very hot pots. A quick wipe with a mild soap and water solution is usually all that’s needed.
Absolutely. One of the advantages of a solid hardwood top is that it can be re-oiled and, if needed, lightly sanded and refinished. With simple care over the years, your island will age gracefully instead of wearing out.
